Relational Therapy for Couples, Families, & Friends In Dallas, TX
Relational Therapy at Unfolding Collective: Building Stronger Connections
Is your relationship at a fork in the road, or in a really tough place? Whether romantic, familial, or platonic, relationships take real work — and sometimes the tools you have just aren't enough. This is where the right therapist can be genuinely transformative.
At Unfolding Collective, we believe all relationships can benefit from the power of therapy. We offer relational therapy to romantic partners, family members, and close friendships, helping people grow in their understanding of themselves and each other. Our primary framework for relational work is Intimacy From the Inside Out (IFIO) — an IFS-based model that helps people identify their internal protective cycles and move conversations away from blame and toward deep, courageous connection.
The Process
Relational therapy at Unfolding Collective begins with a free 30-minute consultation with everyone involved. This is your space to ask questions about our approach and share what you're hoping to accomplish together. If we all decide to move forward, we'll schedule an initial intake appointment. If it isn't the right fit, we'll always provide referrals to trusted colleagues who may serve you better.
The intake process for relational therapy is intentionally thorough — because understanding a relationship requires understanding each person within it.
Step 1 — The Joint Session: Our first meeting brings everyone together to discuss the big picture: what brought you to therapy, the difficulties you're facing, and the history of your relationship. This gives us a shared foundation to build from.
Step 2 — Individual Intakes: Following the joint session, we meet individually with each person for a full biopsychosocial assessment with an emphasis on relationships. This isn't a checklist — it's a conversation where we get curious about your life, your history, and the patterns you bring into your relationships.
Step 3 — Coming Back Together: Once individual intakes are complete, we reconvene as a group. We'll discuss the relational therapy process, provide education on the IFIO framework, and answer any questions before the deeper work begins.

The Session Model
All relational therapy at Unfolding Collective is conducted by Amanda Steed, LCSW-S, using the extended session model. Sessions are 100 minutes, held biweekly — giving your relational system the time and space it needs to de-escalate, process, and begin to repair without the pressure of a ticking clock.
For partners who want to go deeper, extended 200-minute sessions are available monthly.
